Premier League recap: Burnley shocks Liverpool, as Arsenal and Leicester remain goalless

After last week’s win at Arsenal, Liverpool went back on the road in search of three more Premier League points Saturday against newly promoted Burnley.

What the Reds found instead was frustration.

Despite having 80 percent of the possession and firing 26 shots, Liverpool fell to a pair of well-taken goals from Sam Vokes and Andre Gray in a 2-0 defeat.

Elsewhere in Saturday’s EPL action:

Manchester City 4, Stoke City 1

A pair of goals from Sergio Aguero in the first half was matched by a two second-half strikes from Nolito as City raced to a road win.

A 49th-minute penalty from Bojan was the lone bright spot for the Potters.

Tottenham Hotspur 1, Crystal Palace 0

Victor Wanyama’s header in the 82nd minute was the difference as Spurs notched their first win of the season.

Palace spent much of the day frustrating the home side before coming undone on a corner that led to the winning goal.

Hull City 2, Swansea City 0

Everyone’s first pick for the drop made it two wins in as many tries with a comprehensive win against Swansea. Substitute Shaun Maloney and Abel Hernández both found the back of the net in the last 15 minutes to push the Tigers to another unlikely win.

Chelsea 2, Watford 1

Etienne Capoue put Watford up, 1-0, with a goal in the 55th minute, but late replies from Michy Batshuayi and Diego Costa helped Chelsea overturn the deficit and come away with all three points from Vicarage Road.

It has to go down as a disappointment for the home side, which played so well for the first hour or so.

Everton 2, West Brom 1

A Gareth McAuley goal in the ninth minute put West Brom crowd at The Hawthorns in a fine mood, only to see a pair of goals from the Toffees spoil the fun.

Kevin Miralles scored in first-half stoppage time and Gareth Barry supplied the eventual winner with a header in the 60t minute.

Arsenal 0, Leicester City 0

The defending champions were denied two decent shouts for a penalty and had to settle for a draw with Arsenal at the King Power Stadium in the late game on Saturday.

Both sides are top-four contenders in the minds of many, but neither side has a win to its credit in the first two league matches.
