Javi Martinez’s brilliant assist for Kingsley Coman gives Bayern Munich comfortable lead

Bayern Munich had a tough time breaking down Hertha Berlin’s resolute defense for about 34 minutes. But shortly after Bayern scored their opener with a rare corner goal, Kinglsey Coman put the home side up by 2. It was an acrobatic finish for the young Frenchman. But the goal was all about the two brilliant passes that lead up to the ball in the back of the net.

Two centerbacks, yes, that’s right, centerbacks, combined to provide the assist. Jerome Boateng started the play with a great driven pass to Javi Martinez at the edge of the box. Martinez took one touch and it was a good one. The Spanish defender flicked the ball across his body and across the Berlin defense, right into the path of Coman.

The two Bayern defenders had little to do in the first half in their own end, so they were frequently pushing forward to add to the attack. Bayern are without Ribery, Robben, Götze, Thiago and Costa today. With that many quality attacking players out injured, for Bayern being able to score such a lovely team goal just shows the depth of the team. Berlin will have to be careful in the second half or they could be on the wrong end of another Bayern rout.
