Oh you beauty!: Goals of the week 8/31/2015

5. Alvaro Negredo vs Monaco

This is a magnificent chip from the Spaniard. Usually, a chipped goal will be when the player is through on a break away and the keeper has come a little too far out. In this case, Negredo is under pressure from the defense and the keeper is well positioned in the net. It’s a beautiful far post chip.

4. Bafetimbi Gomis vs Manchester United

This goal was selected because of the assist. Andre Ayew’s outside of the foot through ball. Gomis does well to finish to put Swansea ahead, but it’s all about that assist. Perfectly weighted and curved around the United defenders.

3. Miralem Pjanic vs Juventus

Pjanic is one of the most exciting talents in world soccer. He’s making a bit of a habit of scoring free kick goals like these. For that, we have to salute him. Hopefully, Roma can keep a hold of him, as was shocked to not see somebody come in with big money for him this summer.

2. Yann M’Vila vs Aston Villa

M’Vila doesn’t score goals often (this is only his third time scoring professionally), but this was a beaut. All the power you could want in a free kick and really well curved. M’Vila is one of those players that was hyped for greatness at an early age but fell off somewhere along the line. At only 25, one can only hope that this move to Sunderland can get him playing to his potential again.

1. Valter Birsa vs Lazio

The phrase “Upper 90” gets thrown around a lot. Usually anything remotely close to the upper corner of the net is referred to as this kind of goal. This is literally an Upper 90 goal. It kisses the top right corner posts of the goal before going in. No shame in not stopping that, keeper. Nobody would have saved that.
