Video: Juan Mata scores on controversial free kick

Manchester United unveiled a new controversial free kick style in their 5th round FA Cup match against Shrewsbury. The style sees two people standing over the ball, with three other players standing in between the wall and the goalkeeper in an offside position. At the last possible second those three players try run and get themselves back onside.

Their first opportunity to show this new trick came on a 26th minute free kick from Memphis Depay.

Their first attempt at this didn’t exactly go as planned as Depay’s shot deflected off of Anthony Martial. However just before halftime United got another free kick in a dangerous spot and this time Juan Mata took care of business.

The goal has sparked some controversy as many feel the players who line up offside are interfering with the play, therefore the goal should be disallowed.
