The story of the match was French manager Didier Deschamps dropping Paul Pogba and Antoine Griezmann from the starting XI and going with a 4-2-3-1 formation. The move was a disaster as France failed to generate any attack.
Pogba was subbed on at halftime, with Griezmann following shortly after as France went back to a 4-3-3 formation. The change immediately made them more dangerous but they failed to get a breakthrough.
It looked like France were going to be held by the lowest ranked team at the tournament and Deschamps was going to be second guessed for the next month. That was until Deschamps got bailed out just a minute from time by one of the men he dropped, Antoine Griezmann
With Albania throwing everyone forward to dry and get a last ditch equalizer, France were able to get them on a counter. After 93 minutes of playing provider, Dimitri Payet got a chance to be the finisher, picking his second goal of the tournament.
