WATCH: Lamine Kone’s clinical header gives Sunderland win over Manchester United

This didn’t look like your typical relegation fighter vs. Champions League contender. The game between Sunderland and Manchester United at the stadium of Light proved to be much more competitive than previously thought.

The game stuck at 1-1 late, Lamine Kone got through all alone and got a free header on the free kick. After some messups on the goal line by Manchester United, the ball trickled in and Sunderland got three huge points that’ll help them to get out of relegation.

The goal is currently classified as a David de Gea own goal but I don’t know if that is the right call. While he does stop it and the ball goes in off of him, the header was on target. Either way, the loss all but ends Manchester United’s top four hopes as they missed an incredible opportunity to pick up points on at least two of the top four teams since they all play each other tomorrow.

Sunderland is currently just one point away from getting out of relegation and is immediately on a resurgence.
