WATCH: “You too, fat man.” Van Gaal goes after media for criticizing Wayne Rooney

First, Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal told reporters to “enjoy the mince pies,” now he’s calling them fat. That appeared to be the case today as van Gaal criticized reporters and in the case of one reporter, was called fat, as a response to the media for criticizing Wayne Rooney. This happened in today’s press conference after United drew to Newcastle 3-3 thanks to Rooney’s brace and assist.

In case you couldn’t hear what van Gaal said, he said, “We don’t speak anymore about Wayne Rooney. You have criticized him, I don’t. You…You there, you too, fat man there.”

The remarks drew laughter from the reporters as they and others have likely determined that the man has lost his mind. Remove the bizarre press conferences and spats with the media he’s had in recent weeks, just look at why this came about. Van Gaal did this as a response to reporters criticizing Wayne Rooney. Quite frankly, until New Year’s, that criticism was justified. Rooney only has five league goals, and three of them have come in the past two weeks. For a forward, particularly the starting forward for the English National Team, that just isn’t good enough. Whether or not that’s Rooney’s fault or van Gaal’s fault, some blame needs to go somewhere because Rooney can and has done better.
