Watch: Mario Gomez scores in his return to the Germany starting 11

Mario Gomez found his way back into the starting 11 for Germany against Northern Ireland, and after a half hour, he celebrated his return with a goal to finally break down the stout Northern Irish defense.

A quick break from the Germans and quick passes from Joshua Kimmich and Mesut Ozil found Thomas Müller around the six-yard box. Some quick thinking and a short pass from Müller found Gomez in space. Müller, who preoccupied most of the defense, let Gomez have his first goal of the tournament.

Another note, despite the ESPN commentators mentioning this being Gomez’s first start for Germany since 2011, he did start a number of matches during the 2012 Euros.
