2014-15 Europa League Round of 16 starts today

If Champions League action took place Tuesday and Wednesday, that means Europa League is sure to happen on Thursday. The Europa League Round of 16 starts today and there are some pretty good matchups taking place today. Just like in Champions League, England is struggling to perform and Everton is the only team alive. Countries represented in the Europa League include the following.

Europa League teams by country

Italy – 5
Russia – 2
Spain – 2
Ukraine – 2
Belgium – 1
England – 1
Germany – 1
Netherlands – 1
Turkey – 1

Four games will be on American TV. Wolfsburg vs. Inter and Everton vs. Dynamo Kyiv will be on FOX Sports 2 and Dnipro vs. Ajax and Fiorentina vs. Roma will be on FOX Soccer Plus.

Wolfsburg vs. Inter

Both teams have experienced some struggles since they last played in the Europa League. Wolfsburg lost to Augsburg this past Saturday and Inter hasn’t won since they eliminated Celtic last February and lost to Fiorentina and drew to Napoli in Serie A.

Dnipro vs. Ajax

This is going to be a fight to see who can score the most at home. It’s tough to be an away team playing in Ukraine and the Netherlands so if any of these teams can sneak in an away goal, it’ll be huge.

Everton vs. Dynamo Kyiv

Everton is England’s last hope in the Europa League and they have some issues of their own. They currently sit 14th in the EPL and are only six points outside of the relegation zone. They face the top team in the Ukrainian Premier League.

Fiorentina vs. Roma

The All-Italian matchup pits 5th place Fiorentina and 2nd place Roma. This may be the best matchup of the round because both teams know each other. Each team has had a 2-0 victory against the other as well as a 1-1 draw (Fiorentina won their game in the Coppa Italia) so this is going to be rather unpredictable.

Other Europa League games

Zenit vs. Torino – 1:00
Club Brugge vs. Besiktas – 2:00
Villarreal vs. Sevilla – 4:00
Napoli vs. Dinamo Moscow – 4:00
