GIFS: Chelsea wins Capital One Cup 2-0 over Tottenham

After a hard fought and physical game, Chelsea won their fifth Capital One Cup title over Tottenham 2-0 today. This is Chelsea’s first trophy of the year as they go for a possible treble along with the EPL and UEFA Champions League titles.

Tottenham made it very difficult for Chelsea and early on, Tottenham kept up with them and it looked like we would have a Capital One Cup to remember. Tottenham enjoyed 63% of possession and equaled Chelsea’s five shots. Issue was that Chelsea had all of their shots on target and Tottenham didn’t register a single shot once Chelsea took the lead.

Speaking of Chelsea taking the lead, Chelsea did that right before halftime. Off the free kick, the ball pinballed in the box until it got to John Terry’s foot. Being in the right place at the right time, Terry buried it in the back of the net and Chelsea enjoyed a 1-0 lead at halftime.

As they came back to the field after halftime, Chelsea got back to attacking. Cesc Fabregas got on his bicycle and laid out for a tremendous kick at the goal. Fabregas got great contact and forced Hugo Lloris to make the save. Oh that would’ve been on the highlight reel for years to come if that was a goal.

Chelsea then made it 2-0 in the 56th minute. What originally looked like a Diego Costa goal deflected in and became a Kyle Walker own goal. After that, it was a lot of Tottenham attacking in the box but not much in terms of testing Petr Cech.

At the end, Chelsea got to celebrate their win at Wembley. In addition to their rival Manchester City losing today, Chelsea is in the drivers seat to at least win a double and win the EPL title. It’s going to be a tougher ask to win the Champions League but they’ll celebrate tonight, just ask Jose Mourinho.

I like this fun loving and personable Jose Mourinho. Even when he slips and falls, he does it in style.
