German Bundesliga Preview

Today marks the start of the German Bundesliga and while it is usually regarded as the most cost-effective leagues both in terms of team spending and ticket costs for fans in Europe, this years league begins and ends with Bayern Munich. This is Bayern’s league to lose and really only have to play these games as a formality while they spend the majority of their time on trying to win UEFA Champions League. The Bundesliga had also been regarded as a very competitive league but has been going away due to Bayern’s run.

The only team who will be able to make a run at Bayern is Borussia Dortmund. Dortmund has been keeping their spending modest while staying competitive. Dortmund’s big advantage is that they can develop young talent and then sell when they think their value is at its highest, the only issue is that many of those players go off to Bayern and therefore, make their enemies better.

So the consensus is that Bayern Munich will finish 1st and Borussia Dortmund will finish 2nd. As far as who rounds out the last two Champions League spots, that gets a little more tricky but it doesn’t hurt to look at the two teams who are currently in Champions League, Bayer Leverkusen and Schalke 04. Vfl Wolfsburg finished a point out of qualifying for Champions League so they could pose a threat. 3rd place on down is a lot closer in the league so that may be just as or more entertaining than the “big 2” teams. All in all, this is a very entertaining league and contains many players from the German World Cup winning team. Well, you’ll see them on Bayern Munich at least.
