REVIEW: Liverpool vs. Manchester City: City Shows Their Class

The game started fast with City coming out the gates like a thoroughbred. Liverpool withstood the early pressure from City and started to grab a hold of the game. Their defensive work rate in the midfield allowed them to start to dictate the pace of the game. Liverpool managed to create a couple of chances through Daniel Sturridge and Jordan Henderson but could not find the net. In the final minutes of the first half City amped up their pressure again and were turning the screw. Alejandro Moreno switched off and Stefan Jovetic pounced to finish with a laser that seemed to go through Simon Mingolet. After that the whole game shifted to City.

The second half started off with the reds on the front foot looking to tie the game early on. They had a chance to level the score but Sturridge was just offside. Liverpool chasing the game played right into City’s hands allowing them to counter attack directly. The second goal was a beautiful team goal started by Jovetic and finished by him. After that City began to dominate the game until Brendan Rodgers brought in Markovic. He made an immediate impact and create some scoring chances. But then Edin Dzeko takes a knock and that means bring on Sergio Aguero to score 26 seconds after coming on. Three nil up City were in cruise control until a frantic couple of minutes after the double save own goal by Pablo Zabaleta. The end got weird with all the Liverpool players being injured and Glen Johnson leaving the pitch. Overall, City showed their muscle and why they are championship contenders.

Man of the Match – Yaya Toure – The easy choice is Jovetic but I will go with Yaya. He didn’t affect the game in creating chances as much as he did by dictating the pace and by leading the midfield. Plus all the rainbow passes he was doing were pretty to watch.
