USMNT fans are raising money to fly a “Fire Klinsmann” banner

It was inevitably going to come to this, I’m actually kind of shocked this hasn’t happened earlier given the USMNT’s recent struggles. A USMNT fan is raising money to fly a banner wanting U.S. Soccer to fire Jurgen Klinsmann.

The banner, which will read, “Let’s Make USMNT Great Again! Fire Klinsmann!” is supposed to be flown during the World Cup Qualifier against St. Vincent & The Grenadines on November 13 in St. Louis. The fan, Jeff Rosano, is trying to raise $800 for two hours of flying time and as of Sunday afternoon on 10/18, raised $320 with 19 days left.

While I understand why fans are this upset to donate money to fly a banner like this, they couldn’t possibly pick a worse game to do this for. The USMNT is playing St. Vincent & The Grenadines, a team who is currently 122nd in FIFA Rankings. In other words, the USMNT should be able to beat St. Vincent & The Grenadines and thus will lose some of the effectiveness of the banner.

On the other hand, this has been an unprecedented slump that the USMNT has had in quite some time. While it would be unthinkable, there is a chance they can lose to St. Vincent & The Grenadines. A loss or even a draw would raise the ire of the Klinsmann haters to a higher level than they are right now.

The “Fire Klinsmann” banner webpage is located at Indiegogo
