Roddick Looks To Continue PowerShares Success On East Coast

The PowerShares Series, the 12-city tennis circuit for champion tennis players over the age of 30, continues Wednesday, April 22 in Boston at the Agganis Arena at Boston University. Andy Roddick will go for his seventh straight title and will be joined by John McEnroe, Todd Martin and James Blake, among others.

Roddick remains in the lead in the PowerShares Series rankings, leading the way with 1600 points, followed by Mark Philippoussis with 800 points and McEnroe with 700 points. Roddick won his sixth title of the year on the PowerShares Series tennis circuit this past Saturday, breaking the single-season mark set by Pete Sampras in 2011.

“I’ve always wanted to break one of Pete’s records but I’ve never really come close,” Roddick jokingly said in his post-match interview after defeating McEnroe. “Beggars can’t be choosers so I will take it.”

The power server remains unbeaten in 2015 during the PowerShares series, increasing his record to 12-0 for the year. After starting the season by winning in Los Angeles on March 25, Roddick has also won in Lincoln, Nebraska, Chicago, Illinois, Little Rock, Arkansas, and twice in Texas, specifically in Dallas and Austin. He’ll have two more chances to win this week with tournaments in the aforementioned Boston, and the following day on April 23 in Richmond, Virginia.

According to the event website, tickets for the Boston portion can be purchased anywhere from $25 to $270, while the event at Verizon Wireless Arena at the Siegel Center on the campus of VCU can be found from $30 to $195. Parking in Boston can be a pain—let ParkWhiz help by offering easy-to-find Boston parking spaces for the event.

The April 23 “Champions Challenge” will have the same four former ATP stars as in Boston.

McEnroe, who Roddick beat in the finals of the last two events, said that he felt his rival would still be a top-15 player on the ATP World Tour today. Roddick’s serve is still overpowering opponents, clocking consistently in the 130 MPH range this season.
