Today we learned that the Hail Mary isn’t just limited to the end of football games, they can happen in lacrosse too.  Brodie Merrill of the Boston Cannons in Major League Lacrosse fired home a game-tying 90 yard bomb as time expired.

With Merrill standing behind his own cage, he fired towards the opposite end of the field, where the ball snuck past the Rochester Rattlers keeper.  Trailing 14-12, the Hail Mary counted for two points (yes, there is a two-point line in Major League Lacrosse) and sent the game into overtime.

Thankfully because the game took place in Harvard’s football stadium, we have the yard lines in place that show just how ridiculously long this goal was.

That’s improbable.  That’s insane.  To be able to accurately sling the ball from that distance and hit that small of a target is probably a 1/1000 chance, if that.

If you’re the Rochester goalkeeper though… how are you going to let a defender score from the other endzone?!?!?  I guess the only plausible explanation is that he lost the ball in flight as it was hurtling through the air towards him at such a long distance.  In fairness, the camera guy couldn’t find it either.

Oh and in case you were wondering, Boston went on to win the game in overtime, 15-14.
