Here’s how you don’t pull off a heist at a casino. A trio of under-18 prospects for the German soccer team Hannover thought it would be an excellent idea to rob a casino and devised a plan which ended up failing miserably.

The attempt reportedly went down like this. The three players put fake license plates on their cars, wore balaclavas and carried gas pistols. There are multiple accounts of what happened next.

According to ESPNFC, the trio changed their minds at the last second before they were about to pull off the heist, and admitted their plan to police after being stopped. According to Bild, the three parked their car in a “no-waiting” section and were naturally discovered by police. Officers then also discovered that the vehicle had stolen license plates.

Hadn’t these kids ever seen a heist movie? This has to be the worst attempt ever made. In addition to attempted robbery, the kids will have to answer for theft (likely stealing the car) and forgery (using the fake plates).

Ultimately, it’s a good thing they didn’t attempt their heist any further and possibly endanger casino-goers. These kids didn’t totally ruin their lives by continuing with the plan, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t consequences. The trio was reportedly suspended and eventually banned by their soccer club for the casino robbery attempt.

One night of extremely poor decision-making likely cost them their soccer careers and made them look profoundly stupid in the process. Well done.
