Deven Schuko is a senior at Norton High School, who is a wrestler with a 27-0 record, and earned his 100th career win earlier this year. But all of that meant nothing to Schuko when he faced Andy Howland.

Howland, who wrestles for Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School, has special needs. Schuko felt the need to reward Howland for his effort, and Howland took him down.

“We shook hands and we locked up and he was a tough kid and he bulldogged me over to my back. I couldn’t stop the power,” Deven told Paul Burton of CBS Boston.

“I’ve been in sports all my life and wrestling I believe is most demanding and for someone like Andy to wrestle and stick with it, I wanted to make his day.”

Howland’s mother, was very appreciative, and told Burton, “I think the message is sportsmanship is alive and well today and it’s because kids are accepting kids like Andrew wholeheartedly. It’s humbling I guess and pretty cool for all the attention for a simple act of kindness.”

You have to tip your hat to Schuko for his sportsmanship and selflessness. There’s not many kids his age would who willingly do the same for anybody else, and he risked his perfect record and all to do the right thing.
