Donald Trump threatens ads against Cubs owners

Donald Trump is apparently not a Chicago Cubs fan.

Back in February, it was revealed that Marlene Ricketts, who co-owns the Chicago Cubs was funding a Super PAC opposing Trump’s presidential campaign. In true Trumpian fashion, he tweeted out a threat.

Pretty ironic for someone who won’t release their income tax forms.

Trump was on the attack again today, saying he was going to release ads – in response to Rickett funded super PAC attack ads from earlier this month- saying the Cubs weren’t a properly run organization.

“I’ll start doing ads about their baseball team. That it’s not properly run or that they haven’t done a good job in the brokerage business lately,” Trump said in an interview with the Washington Post editorial board.

Trump elaborated saying the Ricketts’, who are conservatives, needed to focus on their baseball team and not fighting his presidential campaign.

“I actually said they ought to focus on the Chicago Cubs and, you know, stop playing around. They spent millions of dollars fighting me in Florida,” Trump said.

“I’ll start spending on them. I’ll start taking ads telling them all what a rotten job they’re doing with the Chicago Cubs. I mean, they are spending on me. I mean, so am I allowed to say that?”

Trump can fight the Ricketts all he wants over the ads, but saying they’re doing a rotten job with the Cubs is wrong. The Cubs made the NLCS in 2015 and are favorites to win it all this year. They’re a spectacularly run team from top to bottom after decades of under performing (mostly under previous ownership).

Honestly, what would he say in an ad? Here’s my guess.

“The Ricketts, what total losers! Funding a super PAC against me? Awful. Their team didn’t even win the World Series last year. SAD!”
