Try Not To Suck

Joe Maddon’s “Try Not to Suck” T-shirt line may be expanding across the league.

The Chicago Cubs manager and members of his team wore the shirts, which were made available to fans to purchase. The shirts caused controversy after prudes in the St. Louis Cardinals organization temporarily banned the shirts at their stadium for having ‘suck’ written on them. Maddon said sales of the T-Shirt were ultimately helped by the ban, as proceeds go to his 90 charity. Now, the Cubs skipper is considering selling the shirts in different cities. Via the Chicago Tribune:

“But I don’t know if you go into an opposing market, utilizing that slogan and still attempting to pay respect to that city itself: Would that group still want to purchase the shirt or not?” Maddon told the Chicago Tribune.

“I’m working on that concept right now where you could sell the shirt somewhere else and that team’s colors, but in a way pay respect to that particular city. Would the people embrace that? I’m not sure.”

Personally, I think Maddon should run with the idea. Who wouldn’t want a team shirt with “Try Not to Suck” written across the front, especially considering the proceeds would go to charity. After all, who wants their team to suck?

The Cardinals might not want the shirts, but I’d imagine other teams would gladly help out if they could, even more so if the shirts were designed to match a team’s color. Like Bryce Harper’s “Make Baseball Great Again,” campaign, “Try Not to Suck,” is a great slogan with a worthy cause. Hopefully, teams can embrace it.
