To celebrate the 30th anniversary of their 1986 World Series championship, the New York Mets are going the ever-popular throwback route. During the 2016 season, the Mets will be bringing back their 1986 uniforms as an alternate jersey.

Earlier this offseason, the team announced a Memorial Day weekend celebration of the ’86 squad from May 27 to 29. On May 28, the Mets have invited manager Davey Johnson and every player from the championship squad to participate in a pregame ceremony. With the jersey announcement, the club plans to extend the celebration all season.

Mets COO Jeff Wilpon said the move will allow fans to reconnect with the history of the 1986 team.

“The 1986 Mets made an indelible mark on the baseball and New York sports scene, capturing the hearts of fans like few other teams,” said Mets COO Jeff Wilpon, via CBS Sports. “This 30th anniversary celebration provides our fans a way to re-connect their excitement to the historic achievements of 1986.”

The jerseys have a classic look, as you can see in this picture of Mookie Wilson wearing the threads, enjoying a big bottle of champagne after the Mets’ World Series win over the Boston Red Sox.

Fans love nostalgia and the jerseys will look super slick. Plus, as Wilpon mentioned, it will reintroduce some Mets fans to the history of the team and one of the franchise’s best seasons. It’s an excellent call by the Mets organization.
