Chicago Cubs general manager Theo Epstein hosts an annual event known as the Hot Stove Cool Music benefit concert at the Chicago metro this past Friday. The event benefits Epstein’s Foundation To Be Named Later that is dedicated to supporting youth baseball.
At this year’s event, musician Eddie Vedder was a surprise performer, where he featured some of the best hits from Pearl Jam, the rock band he is most known for being a part of. Vedder played a number of hits from his time in the band, performing solo versions of hits like “Better Man,” “All the Way, and “Rockin’ in the Free World.”
But Vedder was not alone in his performance, as he was joined onstage throughout the event by Epstein himself and other members of the “Hot Stove All-Stars,” which included the likes of Jimmy Chamberlin (drummer of the Smashing Pumpkins), guitarist Bernie Williams (former New York Yankees center fielder), and Cubs manager Joe Maddon, who joined in on the tambourine. In addition, a Vedder autographed guitar was bought for $26,000 during the fundraising and auction section of the event.
Needless to say, it was a pretty good night for a pretty good cause.
