One cool thing about the National League if you’re a pitcher, is that you get the opportunity to bat and try to make up for runs you allowed on the mound (Note: I still think we should just have the DH in the NL, but that’s a topic for another day).

St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright had allowed three earned runs on Monday night, and came to bat with his team trailing the Philadelphia Phillies 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth. With one swing of the bat, Wainwright got those three runs back…. in very impressive fashion.

Watch Wainwright hit an UPPER-DECK three-run blast:

I’m sure Wainwright was upset about allowing three runs, but if the options are “a 0-0 shutout through four innings”, or “hitting an upper-deck homer to tie the game 3-3,” I’d personally take the latter. Oh, and Wainwright also hit a double in this game that had a higher exit velocity than the upper-deck bomb:

Wainwright also picked up his pitching game the rest of the way, as he allowed just those early three runs over six innings, in a 10-3 Cardinals win.
