ST. LOUIS, MO – MAY 23: Randal Grichuk #15 of the St. Louis Cardinals is mobbed by teammates as they celebrate his solo walk-off home run during the ninth inning of a baseball game against the Chicago Cubs at Busch Stadium on May 23, 2016 in St. Louis, Missouri. (Photo by Scott Kane/Getty Images)

The Chicago Cubs ran out of the gates on fire this baseball season, but have seemed to hit a cool spot. On Monday night, the Cubs were on the icy end of a bone-chilling walk-off home run shot from Randal Grichuk, finishing off a come-from-behind victory for the rival St. Louis Cardinals.

It was the first career walk-off home run by Grichuk, and it came at a great time for the Cardinals. The win inched the Cards to six games back of the Cubs. There may be plenty of baseball still to play, but the Cardinals really could not afford to fall too much behind the Cubs in the National League Central. Six games back is as close as the Cardinals have been to the Cubs since early May, and that may have some Cubs fans starting to panic.

Yes, Cubs fans are in panic mode before we hit June, while still having the best record in baseball.

Since sweeping the Washington Nationals in a four-game series in Wrigley Field, the Cubs have gone 5-8, losing two road series at Milwaukee and San Francisco heading into their road series in St. Louis. The good news for Cubs fans is Joe Maddon is not one to go overboard with handling things when the going gets tough. He has been through this sort of thing before, which is why the Cubs made a smart move to bring him in as the manager.

Even the best teams in baseball will have their rough patches, and the Cubs are still a team coming together in many aspects, learning to handle the lofty expectations and praise that has come their way.

It cannot be easy being a Cubs fan at times, especially when their teams is labeled a favorite. But relax. You play 162 games a season for a reason, and this can all even out in the long haul.
