When your city has not experienced a championship parade in over half a century, you do whatever you can to ensure everybody gets a chance to enjoy it. That goes for those expected to be in court to defend themselves in the court of law, apparently.

All defendants scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday will be given an excused absence by the Cleveland Municipal Court. With the city expected to pretty much be shut down to honor the Cleveland Cavaliers and their first NBA championship with a parade on Wednesday, the court is closing its offices at 11:00 am, meaning no court proceedings will go on as originally scheduled. But this does not let any defendants off the legal hook. They will still be expected to attend court at a later time.

“Given the historic nature of the Cleveland Cavaliers NBA Championship victory, it is only right and proper that the Cleveland Municipal Court facilitate an opportunity for our employees and those who use the Cleveland Municipal Court’s facilities to join with the rest of Northeast Ohio and the Cavaliers’ nation for the celebratory parade scheduled to take place tomorrow,” Presiding Judge Ronald B. Adrine said in the news release.

As with any championship parade, streets will be closed to traffic to make way for LeBron James and Kyrie Irving and company to be toured around the city on top of floats or buses. That means just getting to court would be a nightmare for anyone planning on not skipping out to watch a parade.

So embrace one more day of possible freedom, defendants of Cleveland. Just remember to thank LeBron James for making that happen.
