And you thought this election cycle was nutso – imagine if Mark Cuban was involved.

Some anti-Trump Republicans tried to get Dallas Mavericks owner/billionaire Mark Cuban to run against the Donald, in hopes that his celebrity would squash some of his proposed adversaries momentum. Cuban said he couldn’t do it because it didn’t make sense logistically.

“Look, it was just an email through one of my associates and it was … a quick response of no,” Cuban told CNN’s Erin Burnett. “It’s impossible for it to work.”

“There’s not enough time to get on the ballot,” he continued. “The hurdles are just too great. It was a ridiculous effort, so I passed.”

But, talking with Business Insider via his Cyber Dust app, Cuban said he’d run in one scenario: If rapper Kanye West ran against him.

“If Kanye is a party nominee, I’ll run against him,” Cuban said.

What’s absurd about Cuban’s statement isn’t necessarily him joking he’d run against Kanye, but that it might actually be a possibility. West said at the MTV Video Music Awards last year that he intended on running for President in 2020. Scoff all you want, but Trump’s chances were just about as high as Kanye’s a few years ago.

Having Trump on the ballot seems insane, but imagining having West and Cuban run against each other in the ultimate clash of the egos. America seems OK with giving a power hungry celebrity like Trump a platform to try to gain more power, so why not Cuban and West?

Unfortunately, Cuban is probably just joking. What’s not a joke is the possibility that West still may run. Please make that happen, as it would be peak entertainment.

Signed, a Canadian who doesn’t have to deal with the political repercussions.
