DraftKings and FanDuel

NBA owners approved advertising patches on jerseys back in April, but they’re not going to allow advertising for everybody.

According to Darren Rovell of ESPN.com, while NBA teams are free to make marketing deals with daily fantasy sports companies, their company logos won’t be allowed to be featured on NBA jerseys.

The ban isn’t specific to DraftKings, FanDuel or other DFS sites as companies involved in alcohol, tobacco, gambling, politics, media or Nike competitors won’t be allowed to have company logos appear on NBA jerseys. DFS I guess in this instance is considered gambling I guess but when the league invested in Fanduel and teams made their own marketing partnerships it apparently was all on the up and up. It’s funny how things have changed in such a short period of time where the league and teams were welcoming DFS with open arms and open checkbooks but now are shunning them as public sentiment has shifted.

DraftKings and FanDuel, despite their recent stretch of trouble which has seen them suspended college sports bets and have issues taking bets in multiple states, still heavily advertise elsewhere.

DFS companies LOVE to advertise wherever possible, so not being able to have a logo on NBA jerseys is a setback although you wonder if either would have the cash to spend here given many believe both companies are suffering from the constricting legal environment they now operate in.
