Sam Hinkie Billboard

Sam Hinkie was given the shaft when he was forced to resign as general manager from the Philadelphia 76ers following a power struggle under Jerry Colangelo. 76ers fans were divided over the resignation since Hinkie hadn’t finished his master tanking plan, which some saw as unfair. Despite all the losing in Philadelphia, Hinkie was building towards a better future and ultimately won’t get to reap the rewards of his sacrifice.

Some 76ers fans wanted to thank Hinkie for all he did with the team and took out a Billboard in his honor. The sign, which is on I-95 right near Philadelphia’s Sports Complex (which houses the Wells Fargo Center, Lincoln Financial Field, and Citizens Bank Park), reads “Hinkie Forever,” and promotes a 76ers draft lottery party in May.

It’s kind of strange to see Hinkie, a man who often stayed far away from any public spotlight, displayed on a billboard in South Philly for all to see.

Still, it’s a nice gesture by the 76ers fans who wanted to see his process through. Hinkie did an excellent job of securing future assets and young players to set Philadelphia up well in the future. The 76ers will be a good one day soon, and Hinkie deserves props. Good work by Sixers fans to give him some.
