Does the fate of the Golden State Warriors back-to-back NBA title hopes rest on the knee of Stephen Curry?

We’re all about to find out the answer to that question, as many believe he would be missing as much as three weeks of action. However, Curry came out on Friday and let everyone know he was “optimistic” that he would be returning sooner than the original timetable set by the team.

Curry suffered a scary-looking knee injury in Game 4 of the opening round series against the Houston Rockets, and the team later came out with a two-week timeframe for his return.

Right now, Curry is still receiving treatment three times per day and has yet to take part in any shooting drills to test that knee out.

While the return of Curry certainly wouldn’t be a hinderance to the Warriors chances in the Western Conference semi-final series against the winner of the ongoing Trail Blazers-Clippers series, this team proved to be much more than him in the blowout win over Houston in Game 5.

In fact, the rest of the team just took up the three-point shooting slack in his absence. The team shot 41.9 percent from deep (13-31) in that game, including a 7 of 11 effort from guard Klay Thompson.

But, getting past the rest of the field may require a full squad. It just remains to be seen how many or how few games Curry actually misses thanks to the early dispatch of the Rockets.
