After a rollercoaster tenure in Phoenix, the Suns have decided to fire head coach Jeff Hornacek after 49 games into his third season with the team.

General manager Ryan McDonough informed Hornacek of the move after the Suns’ 91-78 loss to the Dallas Mavericks.

Hornacek made an immediate impact on the Suns in his first season. After winning just 25 games in the 2012-13 campaign, Hornacek’s team saw a 23-win increase the next year, and a near-playoff berth.

His second season came with big expectations, a team that was supposed to make that next move into competing in the league’s Western Conference and making the playoffs, but they took a step back from the previous season finishing 39-43.

To amend the disappointment that was the 2014-15 season, the Suns signed Tyson Chandler and Brandon Knight in free agency, and were long-reported to be one of the top teams to land LaMarcus Aldridge, before he finally decided to become a San Antonio Spur.

This season, the team has dealt with an unhappy Markeiff Morris, after the team traded his twin brother Marcus to Detroit, along with Reggie Bullock and Danny Granger. Along with the Morris debacle, Eric Bledsoe was lost to a season-ending knee injury.

The Suns are 14-35 on the season, and have lost 19 of their last 21 games, with 14 consecutive road losses.

Per Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, the interim coach for the Suns is expected to be either Corey Gaines or Earl Watson.
