The Florida Gators were one of college football’s biggest surprises last year, winning the SEC East championship. However, surprise contributions are not limited to the football field for defensive back Nick Washington.

It turns out the sophomore possesses an impressive knack for solving Rubik’s Cubes.

Washington played in 12 of the Gators 13 games last year, recording 25 total tackles. No word on if his four-star recruiting ranking factored in his blazing cube-solving speed.

There is not much data out there on how long it takes a typical person to solve a Rubik’s Cube, but if the video began at the moment Washington started his attempt, he is not that far away from record-setting pace. The current fastest time for solving a Rubik’s Cube is 4.904 seconds, a time owned by 14-year-old Lucas Etter of Kentucky, who set the mark back in November 2015.

Based on the video, Washington’s attempt took about 23 seconds, which is just four seconds behind the original world record holder, Ronald Brinkmann, who clocked 19 seconds in 1982.

If you are thinking Etter’s time simply does not seem possible, here is video proof.

The Rubik’s Cube has been around since 1974, and its biggest boom in popularity came in the 1980s. While some of the fervor surrounding the toy has subsided since then, it has still sold more than 350 million units since its inception. As the above video shows, the toy still has very devoted group of “cubers,” and not even college football stars are above it.
