2015 was not a good year for rappers’ sons playing football at UCLA, but things are looking up in 2016.
That’s because Cordell Broadus, offspring of Calvin Broadus a.k.a. Snoop Dogg, is back.
Scout.com reports that Broadus will return to the Bruins after walking away from the team last August prior to the start of his freshman year.
Broadus was a four-star receiver in 2015 but walked away from the UCLA team to focus on his filmmaking career. His departure from football was a little awkward given that ESPN produced a five-episode documentary miniseries about Broadus’ relationship with his father and his burgeoning football career.
Young Snoop’s return didn’t exactly come out of nowhere. As Larry Brown Sports points out, Broadus has been tweeting his angst at being away from the game.

Broadus re-joins fellow-son-of-rapper Justin Combs on the UCLA team. Combs, a little-used senior defensive back, was caught in a difficult situation last June when his father, Diddy, was arrested for physically confronting one of his coaches.
With Broadus back on board and Combs still around, UCLA can once again can claim to be the undisputed top destination for football-playing sons of rappers.
