The Houston Cougars got a great grab at head coach at the end of last year, snagging Ohio State’s championship offensive coordinator Tom Herman, and it appears they will be keeping him. Herman has agreed in principle to remain at Houston.

Herman has had quite the success in his first year as the Cougars’ head coach. Houston is currently 11-1 on the year, and is on their way to playing in the American Athletic Conference championship game against the Temple Owls.

The Cougars have had a high flying offense this season, just as Herman produced at Ohio State. There have been rumblings in Columbus this season about missing Herman, as the Buckeyes have struggled on offense for the majority of the college football season.

In fact, the Houston offense has been so productive, it is ranked 31st in FBS in S&P+ rankings among the 128 teams playing.

Houston has won three more games than they did last year, and have gotten the second-most wins in school history at 11. The Cougars can be in outright second place for the school record with a win on Saturday against Temple, and could possibly tie the record of 13 wins in their eventual bowl game.

Herman’s name was coming up in plenty of coaching searches around the country, and has been thought of as possibly the best candidate out there. It became apparent a couple of weeks ago that Houston was going to really make a push to keep the 40-year-old coach, and it has clearly worked.
