It’s safe to say that Villanova basketball players are in high-demand these days, and we aren’t talking about just on campus. Yet, the two men at the center of the most memorable finish to a NCAA men’s basketball championship in decades have apparently found time for their littlest of fans too.
Quite literally in this case, as Ryan Arcidiacono and Daniel Ochefu pulled off a surprise visit to a four-year-old ‘Nova fan stricken with cancer.
The kid’s name is Blaise Davis, and according to the report he is stricken with a rare bone cancer known as Ewing’s Sarcoma. It mainly affects children and teenagers, and Blaise has already survived five rounds of chemotherapy. He is also scheduled for a surgery in May related to his cancer.
How does a four-year-old get to be a Villanova fan? By having both of his parents be graduates of said school. Now with a visit from the co-captains of the national championship winning basketball team at your home, we’re pretty sure he’s going to be hooked on the Wildcats for eternity.
The surprise was able to be pulled off thanks to a GoFundMe campaign that raised $35,000 to help with expenses. Blaise’s family decided on a remodel for the basement so that he could enjoy time with the family and his 2-year-old sister.
Friends of the family reached out to the basketball team, and the contractor told the family they weren’t allowed in the basement until it was completely finished. And to their surprise, here is what unfolded:
