To the surprise of exactly no one, quarterbacks were the first two players taken in the 2016 NFL Draft. Jared Goff went first overall to the Los Angeles Rams, while Carson Wentz went second overall to the Philadelphia Eagles. Joey Bosa was the first non-quarterback off the board, going third overall to the San Diego Chargers.
Goff and Wentz going off the board with the first two picks seemed likely once both the Rams and Eagles traded up. Los Angeles acquired the top overall pick from the Titans, while Philadelphia grabbed the second overall pick from the Browns.
Goff’s stats jumped off the board compared to those of Wentz. Goff threw for 4,719 yards and 43 touchdowns with Cal this past season, while Wentz threw or just 1,651 yards and 17 touchdowns. However, Wentz did lead North Dakota State to back-to-back FCS Championships.
Joey Bosa went third to the Chargers, and interestingly enough, he was the highest-drafted player from Ohio State in 19 years.
Joey Bosa's the highest drafted player from Ohio State since Orlando Pace went #1 overall to the Rams in 1997.

Bosa, a two-time All-American with the Buckeyes, notched 51 tackles and five sacks in 2015. His teammate Ezekiel Elliott was taken fourth by the Dallas Cowboys.
