Anthony Davis — no, not the New Orleans Pelicans star, but the San Francisco 49ers offensive tackle — enjoyed Twitter on Wednesday evening.

Davis is still signed by the 49ers despite what his tweets may make you believe. It’s important to keep in mind the last game Davis played in was on December 28th, 2014 against the Arizona Cardinals and that he recently “retired”.

San Francisco drafted Davis out of Rutgers with the 11th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. But after four seasons where he played and started every game for San Francisco, Davis played in (and started) just seven in 2014, before not playing in a single game in 2015 due to health concerns.

It would seem to safe to say that Davis won’t be playing another game for the 49ers.

To make this situation even more confusing and difficult, Davis was technically “retired” prior to this incident. However, as recently as April 1st, Davis said he plans on un-retiring.

In a tweet that has since been deleted, Davis said:

“I’ll be filing for reinstatement to the NFL later this year. Dealing with Trent is giving me a headache.”

The “Trent” he is referring to is 49ers’ General Manager Trent Baalke.

The headache Davis is referring to stems from a reported 49ers trade attempt in early April. But according to the GM and offensive tackle, those reports were false.

“Trent text me this morning clarifying a ‘report that surfaced’ saying that the trade accusations are ‘False Reporting,'” Davis said.

Davis officially announced his retirement a year ago, and as a result he repaid part of his signing bonus for 2015 this past year. However, after the events that have occurred this month, it looks like Davis may be trying to make a comeback.

San Francisco has not commented as of now on the situation.
