News surrounding Johnny Manziel hasn’t been great in recent times, and this story is no different.

Bernie Kosar has reached out to Manziel in hopes of helping him, but Manziel has not returned Kosar’s messages.

“I’m embarrassed to even tell you how many times I tried,” Kosar told USA TODAY Sports on Tuesday. “I have tried to call him directly 18 different ways. If he chooses not to talk to me, that’s his choice.”

Kosar told USA Today that he isn’t mad, but he does feel there’s “an element of respect that’s involved.”

“If you are not doing the right thing, you can’t expect the rest of the team to,” Kosar recalled Howard Schnellenberger advising him. “That advice has always stuck with me, and I would love to tell Johnny that. He could use it.”

Manziel spent an extended period in rehab last spring, but the reasons for his stay were not disclosed. The second-year quarterback has twice been seen partying on video in recent months, with one of the incidents leading to his demotion to third-string quarterback.

There was also an alleged domestic abuse incident with Manziel, in which his girlfriend told police in Avon, Ohio that Manziel hit her. The two had been drinking, and an image at the scene showed Manziel’s girlfriend Colleen Crowley with a scratch on her arm. Police allowed the couple to leave with no issues.

The Saturday before the team’s final regular season game, Manziel was reportedly partying in Las Vegas, and skipped both the game and a mandatory concussion evaluation.

“I can’t comprehend him not wanting to be” at the game, Kosar told USA Today, “because maybe he’ll pick something up, maybe he’ll get the intensity of it, maybe he’ll learn a trick play, maybe he’ll see what you’re going to have to do hopefully next year and show your commitment to the team.”

Hopefully somebody can get to Manziel before things get worse for him.
