Coby Fleener during their game at Bank of America Stadium on November 2, 2015 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Going scorched earth when leaving a city is nothing new, but it is more interesting when it comes from a player normally quite reserved. Coby Fleener, it’s your turn.

Fleener signed a five year, $36 million contract with the New Orleans Saints after spending the first four years of his career in Indianapolis. On a conference call with reporters on Friday, he questioned the effort of some of his teammates during an 8-8 season in which Andrew Luck missed nine games and they lost 51-16 at lowly Jacksonville.

“I think it’s one of those situations where it really reveals character,” Fleener said. “The guys that kept fighting through it — knowing that we may not have our star quarterback on the field but we still have a chance to win the game — those are the guys you want kind of in your corner. And the other guys, it becomes pretty apparent that they’re along for the ride.”

But Fleener wasn’t done. In an interview with SiriusXM NFL Radio, he revealed that Colts GM Ryan Grigson didn’t have him as a free agent priority, especially after they gave a hefty four-year, $29 million contract to his former counterpart Dwayne Alle.

“The Colts’ lack of interest and the Saints’ interest made going to New Orleans an easy choice,” Fleener said during the interview.

Tell us how you really feel, Coby. He should be one of the featured targets in a Saints offense that has undergone a facelift this offseason.
