Greg Hardy is done in Dallas.
According to 105.3 The Fan’s Mike Fisher, with Hardy’s pending free agency, the team has decided to not re-sign the 27-year-old defensive end.
“Sources tell me Dallas has decided to not retain Hardy, who was paid $8.8-mil last year on an incentive-laded plan that netted the Cowboys just six sacks. Still, his on-the-field performance isn’t the top issue.
Hardy’s behavior – and even his attendance – was a bit too erratic for his Valley Ranch bosses, who feel like they offered him new life after his domestic-violence case forced him away from Carolina.”
It comes to no surprise the Cowboys are done with Hardy, even if Jerry Jones seems like the type of owner who would give his undeserved players second and third chances if it meant his team played better on the field.
Hardy was expected to be calmer and a better decision maker following a domestic-violence incident which led to a four-game suspension to start the season. Instead, he talked about guns, Tom Brady’s wife, and got into fights with his teammates and coaches. For a player you’d think was seeking redemption, he didn’t make things easy for himself.
Hardy turned in a decent season with the Cowboys, posting six sacks, but his non-football related incidents piled up to the point where he wasn’t worth the cost. The Cowboys could use a player of his skill in their lineup, but he’s provided so many headaches and bad press in one shortened season, I’d imagine their decision wasn’t a hard one.
This is the NFL so Hardy will likely be given another shot to compete for a roster spot, but at this point, If I’m running a team, I wouldn’t consider signing him.
