TMZ posted video of the fight February 9 which appeared to show McCoy throwing punches during an incident at the Philadelphia club Recess Lounge. The brawl left two off-duty police officers with broken bones, cuts and ‘brutal injuries’ according to TMZ.
The Philadelphia District attorney determined there wasn’t enough evidence to draw up charges against McCoy and former NFL running back Curtis Brinkley, both of whom were at the club where the alleged assault took place.
It’s good news for McCoy, as the lack of charges will impact possible punishment from the NFL. The 27-year-old likely would have faced discipline in the form of a suspension from Roger Goodell and the league if he was charged with assault, but since the District Attorney couldn’t find sufficient evidence, the NFL really doesn’t have grounds to suspend him – although it’s still possible they might.
McCoy seemed to have dodged a bullet in this case, given there’s video of him being involved in the fight. However, it was deemed that wasn’t enough to charge him with a crime. Given both the assault victims were off-duty cops, McCoy is very lucky to walk away with no legal punishment.
