San Francisco will sort of play host to the 50th edition of the Super Bowl, with the 49ers’ home in Santa Clara being the venue. As a result, the Bay Area and San Francisco in general have begun to roll out the advertising and glitz and glamour ahead of the event.

One of the ways it is going about it happens to be by placing 10 “Super Bowl 50” statues around the city of San Francisco. So far three have been unveiled, with the third going in at Alamo Park overlooking the famed “Painted Ladies.”

Each of the 10 statues would have a different theme, and the Alamo Park one was built around the coins of the Super Bowl.

It didn’t take long for the new resident of the park to get vandalized though, as overnight the statue (which weighs in at 1,600 pounds) was sprayed with graffiti and damaged.

According to the report, the graffiti was easy to remove thanks to a special graffiti-proof coating applied to the statue.

However, it wasn’t the first case of vandalism to the statues that have been put out there already.

With the statues comes lights for the night time, thanks to a solar power source. The report indicates that the first one, put up at City Hall, had damage done to one of the solar panels used to light it up at night.

Another statue can be found by the Palace of Fine Arts, but that one has not been touched by vandals just yet.

Something tells me the city didn’t really think this all the way through, and there could’ve been a much better and more cost-effective way to embrace the Super Bowl and the cities attractions.
