Buffalo Sabres forward Evander Kane is reportedly the subject of a sexual offense investigation, as reported by the Buffalo News. The incident reportedly occurred Sunday morning in a hotel located near the First Niagara Center.

The report only has confirmed that there is an investigation taking place, and that’s pretty much where the details end. However, there are a few noteworthy quotes worth sharing.

“We have an investigation ongoing,” a Buffalo police source said. “We are not naming the suspect, and we do not expect it to be resolved in the very near future.”

Another law enforcement source said the woman was having “memory issues.”

The “memory issues” quote didn’t have any further elaboration, but it already sounds like this could be a case with no clear answers. As seen in the recent investigation against Patrick Kane, stories can change significantly and it usually leads to a lengthy, ugly investigation.

The police sources also cited the Patrick Kane incident as a reason to not release the victim’s name in the hopes of avoiding another media circus which could tarnish the investigation.

Kane was absent from practice on Sunday due to “personal reasons” and the Sabres reportedly talked for a longer stretch of time than normal following practice.

It’s far too early to speculate or jump to any conclusions, but if the case against Chicago’s Kane gave us a template of what’s to come, there will plenty of twists, turns, and uncertainty in this story before things wrap up.
