The Chicago Blackhawks and Minnesota Wild hosted an alumni game yesterday, and it was chalked full of nostalgia.

Former players including Jeremy Roenick, Chris Chelios, Mike Modano, Brian Bellows, Dino Ciccarelli and Denis Savard suited up for the game, which was held at TCF Bank Stadium in Minnesota.

The event was to celebrate the history of the Minnesota North Stars, who operated between 1967-1993 before becoming the Dallas Stars in 1993. Minnesota was awarded another hockey team in expansion in the late 90’s, and the Wild starting playing in 2000.

The best part of alumni games is always seeing older guys relive past glory, even if it isn’t as pretty.

25 seconds into the game a fake fight broke out as Savard and Cicarelli exchanged fisticuffs.

Former Blackhawk Troy Murray was slashed on hands during a play and was awarded a penalty shot, which he buried.

Murray’s Blackhawks fell to the North Stars 6-4. He told Puck Daddy the game was a fun opportunity to see the North Stars jersey one more time.

“To see those guys, to see them in a different light, we had an opportunity to talk to them last night and have some fun and some laughs,” former Blackhawks forward Troy Murray said. “There was a little bit of intensity in the game and the pace was good but obviously both teams were out there to enjoy it more than anything else. It was just a great experience to be out there and see the North Stars jersey for the first time in a long time was pretty special.”

It’s a tremendously cool that the NHL gave diehard North Stars fans one more chance to see some of their former players in action again in Minnesota.
