The St. Louis Blues currently lead the Chicago Blackhawks 1-0 in their best-of-seven first-round NHL Playoffs series. But despite the Blues’ early advantage, some St. Louis fans are unwillingly supporting the Blackhawks while drinking their coffee.
KMOV in St. Louis reported Thursday that a local Dunkin’ Donuts chain in Kirkwood, Missouri, about 13 miles from downtown St. Louis, received cups with the Blackhawks’ logo and are distributing them to customers. The cups weren’t supposed to go to Kirkwood, and the local coffee shop said they only did “due to an untimely shipping error from the regional distribution center.”
As you can see in the accompanying photo, the cups said, “Dunkin’ Donuts: The official coffee of the Chicago Blackhawks.”
The Blues and Blackhawks make up one of the bigger rivalries in the NHL, and that only escalated with St. Louis’ Game 1 win in overtime on Wednesday. What made the coffee issue worse is that the cups arrived and were being sold this week as the series began.
When KMOV went to the Scottrade Center before the game on Wednesday to show fans the cups, some weren’t very happy.
“That’s disgusting. They can’t do that here.”
“They ought to give everybody who goes through there a free donut for a year.”
KMOV later reported the local Dunkin’ Donuts shop stopped selling the cups on Wednesday.
