We’ve seen the innovations that go into on floor/ice projections in NBA and NHL arenas. We’ve gone from spotlights that might glide across the arena, to full blown graphics that create illusions and other spectacles on the surface.

The Tampa Bay Lightning showed that innovation Wednesday night during intermission at Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Pittsburgh Penguins, when they projected a game of Mario Kart on the ice.

Along with the projection on the ice, the arena’s crew had the racers positions on the jumbo tron. So if you were at the game at not a big fan of hockey, at the very least you had this to entertain you for a short amount of time.

Of course as cool as the projection on the ice was, it didn’t help the actual team’s performance. The Lightning would drop Game 3 to the Penguins by a score of 4-2, giving the Penguins a 2-1 series lead and recapturing home ice.
