When you think of high concept movie ideas, you might think of something like RoboCop (He’s a cop…and a robot) or Groundhog Day (He re-lives Groundhog Day over and over). It’s a concept so easy to grasp and so obvious that you can walk into any studio and immediately get your point across.

We imagine that The Shallows was pitched as “It’s Blake Lively fighting a shark” and greenlit almost immediately. Now we all get to watch a trailer that shows us just how much the upcoming film really is Blake Lively vs. a shark.

The 2:33 trailer feels like a short film all unto itself.

Also, is it us or are they trying to tell us this is a reimagining of the story of the Garden of Eden? Lively sits on the beach eating an apple, is told that she’s in “Paradise” and is tempting to ride the waves one too many times before a beast casts her out, so to speak, to a rocky outcropping where she’s no longer safe. Oh God, that’s it, isn’t it?

That’s okay, we’re still gonna go see it on June 29. It’s Blake Lively vs. a friggin’ shark.
