No, the Foo Fighters are not breaking up so Dave Grohl can pursue a solo career.

However, before you start celebrating, the band did announce it is taking a hiatus and they did so in hilarious fashion.

The video, which I encourage you to watch in its entirety, takes a couple turns before the eventual announcement the band is not breaking up around the 6:40 mark. However, before you get there you’re treated to scenes of Grohl’s potential solo career while the band brainstorms who can take the lead singer’s place. Eventually Nick Lachey steps in and delivers a very different version of “Everlong.”

The Foo Fighters’ trolling was mostly born out of Grohl’s solo performance at last weekend’s Oscars, which fueled speculation the band was breaking up. A cryptic tweet the day before only fueled the speculation further.

Fans can breathe a sigh of relief the Foo Fighters are still together. It is just not clear when they will ever be making music together again.
