The 2016 election was made for Jon Stewart.

Between the insanity that has been the Republican nomination process and the ongoing battle between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, it has been prime comedic territory for the former host of The Daily Show. In his absence, comedians such as John Oliver, Samantha Bee, and Larry Wilmore have certainly filled the void well but there’s just something about the way Stewart puts it all together that makes everything seem alright even when it’s all going to hell.

Now that we know we’re about to get (at least) seven more months of Presidential candidate Donald Trump, we need Stewart more than ever. According to HBO CEO Richard Plepler, we might get our wish.

“Yeah, I’m hopeful,” Plepler said in an interview with CNN’s Brian Stelter for the Paley Media Center on Thursday. But he clarified that Stewart isn’t racing to get on air to capitalize on the madness of election season. “I think he’s clamoring at the bit to do something that he knows is going to stand out and be a new part of his artistic expression,” he continued.

Stewart signed a four-year production deal with HBO after leaving his Comedy Central post last year. The only project he’s currently working on is a partnership with cloud graphics company OTOY on short-form digital content for HBO NOW. As for what a Jon Stewart show on HBO might even look like, no one has said or could guess.

It’s not that Stewart will impact the election, especially if he returned in October or November, but his voice could help get a nervous nation through one of the craziest conclusions to the most insane political seasons we’ve ever seen. And that’s saying something.

Help us, Jon, you’re our only hope…
