Fuller House, the Netflix sequel series to the popular sitcom Full House which ran on ABC between the mid-80’s to mid-90’s, is on its way. With Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen (who played Michelle Tanner) not returning to the series, producers of the show had an interesting idea to try to get as close to the original series as possible.

John Stamos, who played Jesse Katsopolis on the original series and will reprise his role in the revival, mentioned in an interview with Sirius XM’s Radio Andy, that Netflix reached out to the twins sister, Elizabeth Olsen, about trying to get her to join the show as Michelle.
“We actually went to… I don’t think this has been talked about. I didn’t do it, I think [executive producer] Jeff Franklin did. I said, ‘Call the sister. Ask her’. We talked to her agent and her agent was like, ‘Come on, she’s not going to do that’. But we did call her agent.”
Can’t say it’s all that surprising Olsen rejected Netflix’s offer. She’s lived in the shadows of her sisters for a long time, and over the last few year’s she’s really established herself as an A-list actress, appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films as Scarlet Witch, while also starring in Godzilla, and the critically acclaimed Martha Marcy May Marlene.
What’s the incentive in starring in a sequel series of a show that’s been off the air for two decades, playing a part made famous by your sisters? I’d have to imagine it was a pretty quick “thanks, but no thanks,” from her agent.
While the show will be seemingly Olsen-free, most of the cast is returning, including Candance Cameron-Bure, Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber as the annoying but somehow lovable friend Kimmy Gibbler. The show will be available to stream on Netflix February 26.
