If anyone ever casts a Silence of the Lambs remake, producers may want consider Kristen Wiig for the role of Hannibal Lecter. And if Wiig declines the offer, see if Jane Fonda is available.

Wiig and Fonda, along with fellow actors Mya Taylor, Carey Mulligan, and Greta Gerwig, read from a monologue delivered by the famous fictional serial killer in Silence of the Lambs as part of a W Magazine series called “Casting Call.”

The results of this particular casting call, from Wiig in particular, are awesome.

After noting the salad dressing stain on her script, Wiig delves into a brilliant rendition of Hannibal’s biting attack on Clarice Starling. You’ve got to love the dramatic pauses and deep stares into the camera.

Anthony Hopkins won the Oscar for Best Actor for his performance in Silence of the Lambs, so Wiig has a lot to live up to, but she (and the other actors on call here) do a pretty splendid job. Here’s Hopkins’ original monologue, for comparison’s sake.

As an off-screen voice says when Wiig finishes her monologue in the W video, “That was f—— brilliant.”
