“The Special One” now has his dream job: According to Sky Sports in England, Jose Mourinho has been officially appointed as manager of Manchester United, replacing his former boss Louis van Gaal in the Old Trafford dugout.

Mourinho left Chelsea in the middle of December last year with his defending champions languishing in 16th place, just above the relegation zone. Today is the 12th anniversary of Mourinho winning the Champions League with his first club Porto, which propelled Mourinho into his first stint with Chelsea. He’s since managed at Inter and Real Madrid before taking over at Chelsea for a second stint.

Though Manchester United is coming off winning the FA Cup, their first trophy in three seasons, van Gaal’s performance as manager left much to be desired including a fifth place finish this season that will see United miss out on Champions League football, as well as scoring one more goal than 17th place Sunderland, 49 to 48.

Mourinho has a job to do in reshaping and revamping a squad with some promising youngsters but plenty of dead wood and players who have become misfits at Old Trafford. One wonders what Juan Mata thinks of this development.

Jose Mourinho is back in English football with the biggest club in England. Get excited.
